Shipyard Overmarine Group Mangusta

Overmarine Group’s production facilities are based in Viareggio, the heart of Italian yachtbuilding. Its sites across Tuscany total around 200,000 m², making it one of Italy’s largest yards. Unlike many Italian builders that subcontract hull production, Overmarine builds its hulls in-house and tests them in modern towing tanks in cooperation with leading hydrodynamics specialists.Safely reaching 40–50 knots in yachts measuring 22–50 metres is an immense technical challenge, leaving Mangusta with few direct competitors. For decades, Overmarine has developed advanced technologies for high-performance yachts. Each vessel can be tailored in layout and design to its owner’s wishes; the yard has launched more than 300 hulls, including 90 over 30 metres.

Speed is in the DNA

The sleek aerodynamic lines of Mangusta’s fast yachts were penned by Andrea Bacigalupo. To achieve exceptional speeds, larger models sometimes use three or four powerful engines driving waterjets instead of the usual two. Initially focused on composite yachts, the yard later introduced the 33–54-metre Mangusta Gran Sport range with lightweight aluminium hulls. The first, El Leon (Mangusta Gran Sport 54), debuted at the Monaco Yacht Show in autumn 2018. It subsequently sailed to the Caribbean, becoming the first Mangusta to cross the Atlantic. Capable of 30 knots, it offers a range exceeding 4,000 nautical miles at an economical 14–17 knots. Acclaimed designers Alberto Mancini and Igor Lobanov have also shaped the distinctive image of the modern fast Mangusta megayacht, making the brand synonymous with high-performance yachting worldwide.

Beyond speed

The shipyard also offers an ocean-going displacement range designed in naval architecture by P.L.A.N.A. Design: Mangusta Oceano 39, 44, 50, 52 and 60. Brand enthusiasts will find the same philosophy as in its fast yachts: extensive customization and exceptional quality. The yachts combine excellent seakeeping with fin stabilizers and generous volumes for their class. For example, the Oceano 52, certified at 500 GT, offers approximately 20% additional effective volume thanks to its garage. “Smart Solutions” defines Mangusta’s ocean-going displacement line, while its fast yachts stand out for luxurious expressiveness.
