Overmarine Group Mangusta

The Balducci family founded Mangusta in 1985, choosing a symbolic and meaningful name for the company. At the time, the leading brand for open, fast sailing vessels was Cobra by Tecnomarine. Named after the mongoose – the only animal that can tackle and defeat cobras – Mangusta clearly set out to challenge the status quo.

Giuseppe Balducci was born in Limite sull’Arno, a nautical town in Tuscany. He began his career working in a historic shipyard in Viareggio, but his entrepreneurial spirit and his talent for capturing market trends soon spurred him to look for more. Thus Elettromare, Effebi and, later, the Overmarine Group were born. The family-owned and family-managed business now includes Giuseppe’s children, Maurizio and Katia Balducci. We are a team deep rootly in our Italian heritage, always loyal to our original values, yet able to keep our gaze aimed towards the future.

The shipyard Overmarine Group Mangusta:
“In the automotive sector GranSport is a synonym for long voyages with high performance and optimal comfort. These principles were the fundamental starting point for creating the new line. We translated them and applied them to our sector, creating a model that is an intelligent mix of these three elements.” - Maurizio Balducci, Overmarine Group CEO.

Since the beginning of its journey, Mangusta revolutionized yachting with its innovations. In the 1990s, the company launched the Mangusta 80. Up until that moment, “open” yachts had never reached 80 feet in length and, most importantly, had always forced buyers to compromise between speed and space, sportiness and comfort. Mangusta changed that forever, building a large, high-performance sports yacht that was exceptionally comfortable and liveable. The Mangusta 80 was a huge success, leaving its mark in history and making the brand known all over the world. It was the beginning of Maxi Open! Over the years, models grew even bigger. Their streamlined, sporty lines make them timeless classics – true icons in their field.

Visionaries by nature, Mangusta's engineers continue to achieve new heights in yacht design and performance. In recent years, the company had developed two new lines. In 2016, we introduced the first tri-deck yacht in the Mangusta Oceano line: displacement vessels with great range that allow you to travel the world in style, to any destination and across any distance. More recently, the new Mangusta GranSport line launched, setting a new benchmark by merging top performances and transoceanic range. Mangusta’s story continues, with a fleet destined to grow.

Production facilities of Overmarine Group are located in Tuscany near Massa, Viareggio and Pisa, the company's various production sites total approximately 190,000 square metres and closely control every step entailed in building a new yacht. Unlike many Italian shipyards that outsource the production of hulls to subcontractors, Overmarine manufactures the hulls of its yachts independently, testing them in the most modern test pools in cooperation with leading experts in the field of hydrodynamics. Safe achievement of high speeds (40-50 knots) for yachts of such sizes (22-50 m) is technically a very difficult task, so Mangusta has almost no competitors in its segment. Overmarine has been developing and implementing the most advanced technologies for the design and construction of high-speed yachts for decades, and each of them (during the existence of the shipyard, more than 300 hulls have been launched) can be modified in the field of planning and design to the owner's taste.

The new design for the Mangusta Gran Sport line was developed by the designer Alberto Mancini. He was also responsible for the look of the Mangusta Oceano displacement with a length of 45-60 m with a hull of steel and superstructure of aluminum. Despite the fact that this is a fundamentally different class of yachts, not designed for speed records, in its light swift lines the heritage of Mangusta is recognized unmistakably.

Mangusta GranSport 45 is an innovative combination of luxury, space, performance and efficiency. Exterior designer Alberto Mancini is spot on with his interpretation of Mangusta’s sleek, muscular lines. The low black curve of the bridge deck roof barely seems to rise above the bulwarks – it is a picture of aerodynamic design, which Mancini likens to an Aston Martin. And not without justification,
